Congratulations, Mike. You created an outstanding race from start to finish. Here are the highlights, that in my mind, have raised the bar for adventure racing to a whole new level:
1. Regular pre-race communication
2. Impeccable organization (we were particularly impressed with the CP 'binders' that did not slip the attention of the Type A
personalities on the team). Who is the amazing person who did ALL the laminating?
3. Huge volunteer involvement, who were always smiling and helpful, even while swatting a gazillion mosquitos
4. Local support - we really felt that the countless weekends you
spent out in the Golden community helped create a great atmosphere for the race
5. Unsupported nature of the race. The movement of bins and bikes and everything else was extremely efficient from our perspective. We still can't believe that you actually shuttled ~60 boats back to the lodge
6. Flexibility - well done on keeping calm when most of the western-traveling athletes were stuck on the highway late into Friday night.
7. The ropes course. Way to go out on a limb in order to create one of the most spectacular tyro-crossings I have ever seen. Unfortunately, we didn't get to do it but I'm still breathless just thinking about it. It was not contrived, and it was not for the faint-hearted. Even the bypass route was an enjoyable alternative.
8. Definite sections that allowed route choice (up to the ridge, and to the zip-line, the Moonraker trail system).
9. Limited heinous bush-wacking (it wouldn't be AR without at least a couple of hours of it)
10. Spectacular trekking. The kind of thing you would actually set a weekend aside to go do for fun. The views were some of best around up on that ridge.
11. TA2 on the top of a mountain. Absolutely brilliant. It was such a neat experience to hike for 6-7 hours to the very top of a mountain in order to claim your bikes for the AR downhill of the century!
12. The single track downhill section was exceptionally awesome.
Everyone I spoke to about it had a blast.
13. The biking section had everything - the knarly downhill, the
short bike-wack/bike-swamp-drag, the fast and super fun single track on the Moonraker trails, some wicked double track downhill, and the not-to-be-excluded 2-hour fire road uphill grind at the end.
14. An advanced course format that was well organized, explained and made sense. Personally, I think its perfect when it reserved for only a couple of the top teams.
15. Great breakfast
16. Media coverage - boats carrying cameramen, weird hovering cameras, video (very cool), slideshow.....it all adds to the excitement of racing.
I'm sure I've missed a ton of things, but this is what comes to mind just off the top of my head.
I came back from France this week, cutting my European summer short, just for this race. It was well worth it. It reminded me why I love adventure racing. I'm already looking forward to next year.

Thanks for putting on the race again, the trekking section was even harder than last years!! I also wanted to commend you and the race the rockies volunteers for handling such a tragedy so well and being so organized while handling it. I really hope that this event doesn't dissuade you from designing such challenging and remote courses! Thanks again, hopefully there's a race the rookies in Edmonton that I will see you at!

Yes, huge kudos to your volunteers - they were all awesome and so upbeat!
Also, know that VJ's comments in her email about "the best and safest organized race in our country" and "without a doubt, the races that you put on are by far outdoing any other event when it comes to organization, safety, fun factor on the course, as well as logistics" were not just nice exaggerations - they really are true. You really have set the standard which we compare other races to now.
As for VJ's comment about the funnest bike ride in a race, it was actually one of the funnest bike rides I've ever done!

Once again, a great race this weekend. We assembled a couple of rookies for this race, and I think they're hooked now! You found the balance between not-too-easy, and not-insanely tough.
Our teams (SWASS and SWITS) thank you.

I was introduced to this wonderful adventure by Debbie Harksen and had supported her on a Sea to Summit race and just this past year at Nordegg. Mentally I wanted to be out on that race course but physically knew I didn't have it in me. So, this urban-style race was perfect as it allowed a taste of what to expect - it was long enough to feel I worked for it and it was short enough that I could see what I was experiencing before it got too dark. Our team initially talked about not getting wet, but when we got to the shoreline we took the plunge to make sure we got the full experience. There was not one moment I was disappointed in , even having to haul 60 lbs of potatoes and one very awkward canoe at the very end. The bonus was also seeing all the hardcore adventure racers volunteering at each of the stations. The seasoned veterans helping all the adventure race "virgins".... Thank you for a well organized and fun event. As Debbie always says " Just Move" and we did!!!
