Congratulations, Mike. You created an outstanding race from start to finish. Here are the highlights, that in my mind, have raised the bar for adventure racing to a whole new level:
1. Regular pre-race communication
2. Impeccable organization (we were particularly impressed with the CP 'binders' that did not slip the attention of the Type A
personalities on the team). Who is the amazing person who did ALL the laminating?
3. Huge volunteer involvement, who were always smiling and helpful, even while swatting a gazillion mosquitos
4. Local support - we really felt that the countless weekends you
spent out in the Golden community helped create a great atmosphere for the race
5. Unsupported nature of the race. The movement of bins and bikes and everything else was extremely efficient from our perspective. We still can't believe that you actually shuttled ~60 boats back to the lodge
6. Flexibility - well done on keeping calm when most of the western-traveling athletes were stuck on the highway late into Friday night.
7. The ropes course. Way to go out on a limb in order to create one of the most spectacular tyro-crossings I have ever seen. Unfortunately, we didn't get to do it but I'm still breathless just thinking about it. It was not contrived, and it was not for the faint-hearted. Even the bypass route was an enjoyable alternative.
8. Definite sections that allowed route choice (up to the ridge, and to the zip-line, the Moonraker trail system).
9. Limited heinous bush-wacking (it wouldn't be AR without at least a couple of hours of it)
10. Spectacular trekking. The kind of thing you would actually set a weekend aside to go do for fun. The views were some of best around up on that ridge.
11. TA2 on the top of a mountain. Absolutely brilliant. It was such a neat experience to hike for 6-7 hours to the very top of a mountain in order to claim your bikes for the AR downhill of the century!
12. The single track downhill section was exceptionally awesome.
Everyone I spoke to about it had a blast.
13. The biking section had everything - the knarly downhill, the
short bike-wack/bike-swamp-drag, the fast and super fun single track on the Moonraker trails, some wicked double track downhill, and the not-to-be-excluded 2-hour fire road uphill grind at the end.
14. An advanced course format that was well organized, explained and made sense. Personally, I think its perfect when it reserved for only a couple of the top teams.
15. Great breakfast
16. Media coverage - boats carrying cameramen, weird hovering cameras, video (very cool), slideshow.....it all adds to the excitement of racing.
I'm sure I've missed a ton of things, but this is what comes to mind just off the top of my head.
I came back from France this week, cutting my European summer short, just for this race. It was well worth it. It reminded me why I love adventure racing. I'm already looking forward to next year.

The race in Golden was pretty cool.
I am looking forward to the race in Edmonton, last year was a blast.

Thanks again for this race! It was the hardest and best activity I've ever done and I'm looking forward to next year.

Congratulations again on a great race. I loved the course, especially the walk across the ridge and the volunteers, yourself, everyone involved was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful... a great day!
The live updates on the web were cool (my family loved it) and the course options were great too, allowing slow teams like ours to feel success at the finish line.
Thanks again for a great day!

Thanks again for a great race experience...maybe next time you could get the valley sprayed for mosquitos though!
